Specimen wishlist
We welcome inquiries from anyone potentially able to help us obtain the taxa still needed for the Leptree molecular project (contact C. Mitter ). A detailed “Wish List” can be extracted from the Status Matrix by sorting on the “Coll” column: “N” denotes the taxa we don’t have yet. All specimens obtained become part of the ATOLep Collection, available to other projects as well. Collecting protocols are available.
The highlights of the current “Wish List” are as follows:
Collection for the sequencing of Macrolepidoptera is mostly complete, but we are missing a number of families and subfamilies endemic to the Old World tropics. The main gaps:
- Calliduloidea: Callidulidae: Griveaudiinae (Madagascar) and Pterothysaninae (Madagascar, Oriental)
- Hesperioidea: Hesperiidae: Coelieadinae (Old World tropics)
- Geometroidea: Sematuridae: Apoprogroninae (S. Africa)
- Geometroidea: Uraniidae: Auzeinae (Indo-Australia, Africa)
- Bombycoidea: Eupterotidae: Tissanginae, Hibrildinae, Janinae (all African)
- Bombycoidea: Lemoniidae: Sabaliinae (Africa)
- Whalleyanoidea: Whalleyanidae (Madagascar)
Collection is still incomplete for a number of microlepidopteran superfamilies, especially in the tropics but in all other regions as well. Identified specimens of any microlepidopteran family would be very gratefully received. Examples of taxa for which we have little or no material include:
- Opostegoidea: Opostegidae: Opostegoidinae
- Incurvarioidea: Adelidae: Nematopogoninae (Europe)
- Incurvarioidea: Cecidosidae (S. South America, S. Africa)
- Tineoidea: Lypusidae (Lypusa maurella; Palearctic)
- Tineoidea: Eriocottidae (Palearctic, Oriental, Australia, S. America)
- Tineoidea: Tineidae: Dryadaulinae (world-wide), Perissomasticinae (OW tropics), Hapsiferinae (world-wide), Siloscinae (Afro-tropical), Euplocaminae (Palearctic), Teichobiinae (Palearctic), Stathmopolitinae (Canary Is.)
- Yponomeutoidea: Ypsolophidae: Ochsenheimeriinae (Palearctic)
- Yponomeutoidea: Yponomeutidae: Argyresthiinae (world-wide), Saridoscelinae (Asia), Scythropiinae (Europe)
- Yponomeutoidea: Heliodinidae (mostly New World)
- Yponomeutoidea: Lyonetiinae: Cemiostominae (world-wide)
- Gelechioidea: Autostichidae(Holarctic, Australasia), Deoclonidae (w. N. America, Palearctic), Glyphidoceridae (New World), Schistonoeidae (pantropical)
- Zygaenoidea: Himantopteridae, Anomoetidae (both Oriental, Afro-tropical), Somabrachyidae (Palearctic, Afrotropical), Heterogynidae (Europe)
- Sesioidea: Brachodidae (world-wide except Nearctic)
- Sesioidea: Sesiidae:Tinthiinae (world-wide)
- Sesioidea: Castniidae: Tascininae (SE Asia)
- Cossoidea: Cossidae: Ratardinae (India, SE Asia)
- Cossoidea: Dudgeoneidae (Australia, OW tropics)
- Epermenioidea: Epermeniidae (world-wide)
- Alucitoidea: Tineodidae (Oriental, Australasia)
- Copromorphoidea: Copromorphidae, Carposinidae (both world-wide)
- Thyridoidea: Thyrididae: Charideinae (Afro-tropical)

During the ESA annual
During the ESA annual meeting I should be able to supply some legs of Charideinae, Ratardinae, Brachodidae, and Heliodinidae (Epicoresa)
